Flow chemistry and flexible production at ACHEMA 2018

June 27th 2018, Echt, Netherlands

The 11th of June see’s the start of ACHEMA 2018 in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), a five-day event covering all aspects of process technology. For the first time, this cycle features a dedicated ‘Flow Chemistry Pavilion’, located in Hall 9.2 & is home of over 25 exhibitors focussing on continuous process engineering & its application!

WHERE DID THE IDEA COME FROM FOR THE FLOW CHEMISTRY PAVILION?
The idea in fact started just over three years ago at the end of ACHEMA 2015. Driving back from Frankfurt, with my colleague Stan Hoeijmakers, we were reviewing what an excellent event it had been for our company and we questioned: how we could possibly make it better in 2018? Reflecting on the event we both commented that we had hardly spoken to each other as we had a packed meeting schedule, side events to attend & presentations to give – all positive! However, we could not easily visit, or direct our contacts to, other technology providers in the area of continuous processing because we were spread over different locations & the event is so large. At the same time, we were surrounded by technology that was not necessarily complimentary to ours. We had the idea that if we were all located in the same Hall, this would give a focal point for people interested in the wider technology of process intensification & make it easier for both new & experienced users to engage with the technology. In addition, we felt that having a focal point such as panel discussions & workshops would give something different for visitors to ACHEMA &
allow us as a Community to stand out amongst the approxinately 4.000 other exhibitors.

SO, NICE IDEA BUT WOULD OTHERS BE INTERESTED TO JOIN? WOULD WE HAVE ACHEMA’S SUPPORT?
We had no doubts that there would be interest from a number of Exhibitors to join because over the years the technology providers have become a Community of vendors & service providers. On approaching ACHEMA, Dr Thomas Scheuring (CEO) was very positive & supportive, allocating exhibition space & a discussion area for us to develop the idea & offer to other Companies. In fact, very soon we had to go back with the request to expand the Pavilion floor space (& then a third time)!

HOW DID TKS PUBLISHER GET INVOLVED?
Whilst Chemtrix had the seed of an idea for the ‘Flow Chemistry Pavilion’, key for us was to have an independent event, not one that was sponsored by a supplier. Our first thought was to engage a media partner to promote the Pavilion but also host the planned one-day Symposium of presentations & case studies. At this stage, there was no question for us of who to approach. At the heart of the Flow Chemistry
Community can be found TKS Publisher. As organisers of the annual ‘Symposium on Continuous Flow Reactor Technology for Industrial Applications’, which this year reaches its 10th year (13-15th November
2018, in TKS’ home city of Milan, Italy), TKS have a proven track record in organising such events, marketing & setting symposia programs.

I have to say that we are thrilled with the interest from the Community, with everyone represented across the various platforms, be it with a booth at the exhibition, taking part in the round table event or presenting at the One-day Symposium.

We welcome you to join us in Hall 9.2 from 9 am 11th June 2018 to learn more about this maturing technology!
